Fifteen thousand dollars from the amount raised this year will fund the Heroes Helping with Horsepower Equine Program in Mitchell. The goal of the nonprofit program is to make a difference in the mental and physical health of individuals who have survived trauma through interaction with horses. The program serves many U.S. military veterans, as well as children and adults with disabilities, annually.
The donation will additionally fund 11 scholarships for graduating Mitchell High School seniors to attend a university or trade school while also equipping area boys and girls with hockey gear through the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association. The Foundation has funded 300 scholarships in nine years.
On December 25, the Foundation will support a lunch for up to 600 people at the Mitchell Masonic Lodge. Lunch is available to anyone seeking a meal, as well as for people simply seeking company on Christmas Day.
“Toshiba earnestly supports U.S. military veterans and furthering the education and training opportunities for young people,” states Toshiba America Business Solutions President and Chief Executive Officer Larry White. “Donating to the Sam Tronnes Memorial Foundation allows us to make such a difference at the community level.”
“Toshiba and its business partners provide the foundational support enabling us to positively impact the lives of so many U.S. military veterans and young people across our community and state,” says Sam Tronnes Memorial Foundation, LLC President Dave Tronnes. “The donations will provide veterans with the care and attention they so richly deserve while also allowing more young people the opportunity to earn a degree and learn a trade.”
